Have finally set a new blog for my photography type stuff. If that’s what you’re looking for, head on over to JustinFoo Photography! See you there!
Had to put the climbing photos on hold for a little bit due to the fact that I still had to go out and shoot for my final assignment. Viv agreed to help me out again for this shoot and this time we did it in the Melbourne University underground carpark. It’s such a weird place! Arched pillars and ceilings. The space was used in the old Mad Max movie. Had to selectively process a couple for submission first. Will get to the rest soon. As last time, Viv was amazing to work with! Had Will, from photography school there with me too and we were just strobing the hell out of the shoot with our Cactus V4 triggers and other gear. Here are a couple to begin with.

Was up in the Grampians for the Anzac day weekend. That would explain why my body is so unresponsive at the moment. Feels like I’ve just been hit by a truck. Spent a good portion of the second day shooting like crazy, especially at the Hollow Mountain cave. Climbers always make willing subjects! Will definitely need some time to go through all the shots I’ve taken. Here’s one of Vu. More to come.

Vu, on Dead Can't Dance (V11)

Steve on Innocence (V3)

Okay, so I’m almost at the end of the first module of my professional photography course. I don’t really know if I’ve made much improvement. I’d like to think so though. I think portraiture has definitely improved and I do know much more about lighting with small speedlights now. Am definitely getting my head around this strobist thing. Will came over today to borrow a reflector and we tested out the entire lighting kit. 1 cactus KF36 and 1 sb600 into silver reflective umbrellas on either side of him and 1 speedlight into a 41″ shoot through umbrella up high in front of him. Great light! We were both quite surprised at how easy it was, especially with the Cactus V4 radio triggers and not needing a line of sight (e.g. CLS).
I’ve now got important things to think about. Final folio presentation is on next Wednesday and I still haven’t shot anything. Have made arrangements with Vivian to do another shoot on Monday to fulfill the portraiture aspect. Not quite sure about the product aspect yet. I’m also going to the Grampians over the weekend, so I’ll probably be able to fulfill the ‘landscape’ and ‘sports’ aspect of it as we will also be climbing. Check back for some shots!

Haven’t done landscapes for awhile now, and I thought I’d do some today. I can’t believe I actually managed to adhere to my plans to get up at 5am. Hauled my arse down to St. Kilda beach to get some long exposures done. Good thing too because the light was great! And to think that I would’ve missed it all if I didn’t actually wake up. Had to go back to bed for another couple of hours after that because I felt like a wreck. Luckily it wasn’t too cold, or it could’ve been worse. That being said, I do want to try it when it’s cold. A good fine layer of mist would add a lot of drama!
